Bovine Eye Diseases : Cancer Eye
Page Dinsmore, DVM, ILM-CSU
Cancer eye, technically known as Squamous Cell Carcinoma, is a common locally
invasive tumor of the eyes and eyelids of older cattle. Like pinkeye, its occurrence is
associated with exposure to sunlight and is more common in cattle with white eyelids and
conjunctiva. As a result, cancer eye is very common in Colorado dairy cattle.
The third eyelid appears to be the most common site of cancer eye in dairy cows,
followed in frequency by the lower lid and then by the limbus (junction of the clear
cornea with the sclera or colored portion of the eye). Cancer eye may exist in a
"premalignant" form as a flat white plaque or as a wart-like growth on the lower lid. The
malignant form is not well-circumscribed, and its surface is ulcerated. Malignant
squamous cell carcinoma will grow steadily and will invade adjacent tissues including ...

• Cancer and other degenerative diseases affect a wide proportion of
the Australian population. Cancer and palliative nursing is
therefore a significant component of nursing practice and
specialist knowledge and skills is essential to maximise the
therapeutic outcome for the person and family throughout the
illness experience. Likewise increased knowledge of care for
people at the end of life across a range of health settings is
paramount.

THEORETICAL ESTIMATE OF INCREASED RISK OF CANCER
DISEASES CAUSED BY DIETARY EXPOSURE TO SELECTED
CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
The potential cause of tumours, particularly of organs connected with the digestive tract of the organism, is associated
with the presence of some chemical substances in foodstuffs. However, in most cases it is extremely difficult to prove
the causal nexus, due to the complexity of the processes preceding the origin of cancer in the form when it is
detectable by available diagnostic methods. In this ”late stage” primary causes of the disease can seldom be found. The
chemical substance may act as an ”initiator or promoter” of processes the consequences of which lead to the cancer
disease. Methods predicting the increasing probability of cancer diseases due to exposure to chemical substances were
elaborated in order to prevent the origin of cancer . ...

The term “clinical proteomics” refers to the applica-
tion of available proteomics technologies to current
areas of clinical investigation. The ability to simultane-
ously and comprehensively examine changes in large
numbers of proteins in the context of disease or other
changes in physiological conditions holds great
promise as a tool to unlock the solutions to difficult
clinical research questions. Proteomics is a rapidly
growing field that combines high throughput analyti-

with complex bioinformatics to study systems biol-

Lung cancer patients with cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases
From [147.52.72.117] Last viewed: 15.07.2004
Abstract.
Cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases (CCVD) and
cancer are the leading causes of death for humans. The aim
of this study was to demonstrate clinicopathological features
of lung cancer patients with CCVD. Nine hundred and sixty-
six patients with lung cancer were consecutively admitted to
our division over a 24-year period. Among them, 254
(26.3%) patients were diagnosed as having CCVD based on
medical records. One hundred and ninety-one were men and
143 were 70 years of age or older. There was a difference in
smoking habit (p=0.0029) and 30 pack year or more history
of smoking (p<0.0001) between lung cancer patients with
or without CCVD. Among the 254 patients, 97 patients
had stage IA-IIIA disease, however, 27 patients received
chest irradiation or supportive care because of coexistence of
CCVD. In 157 patients with locally advanced or metastatic
disease, 58 patients ...
