Action to Cure Kidney Cancer Awards $45,000 Grant to Fox Chase Cancer
Center Researcher
Action to Cure Kidney Cancer awards a $45,000 grant to Paul Cairns, Ph.D., a member of the
medical science division of Fox Chase Cancer Center, to purchase a state-of-the-art DNA
enhancing machine to assist his work in developing a urine screening test that will detect early
stage kidney cancer .
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 20, 2006 -- Action to Cure Kidney Cancer (ACKC) awards $45,000 to Paul
Cairns to purchase a real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) system that will expedite his work in the

Kidney Cancer Alliance Takes Action!
Members Urged to Take Action Now to Increase Research Funding
(PRWEB) May 24, 2004 -- Members of the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) have joined One Voice
Against Cancer (OVAC) in urging Congress to take action to cure kidney cancer and other deadly diseases by
significantly increasing federal funding for programs that benefit cancer patients and their families.
KCA Volunteer Governmental Affairs Committee Chair, Sarah Wise, says in Fiscal Year 2005, Congress
should take action to provide:
• $30.25 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) ($2.37 billion increase). We appreciate the
Congressional and Presidential commitment to privatizing research on health matters, demonstrated by the
five year commitment to double the NIH budget. While appreciative of the hard work that went into achieving
last year's 3% increase at NIH, KCA is concerned that dramatic ...

CANCER OF THE KIDNEY
MEDICAL APPENDIX
(including renal cell carcinoma, hypernephroma, nephroblastoma, Wilms’ tumour,
squamous cell carcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma, sarcoma)
DEFINITION
1.
Cancer is a term which embraces a large number of different diseases, the common
feature of which is a malignant tumour. This is a growth (neoplasm) which is not
circumscribed but which infiltrates the surrounding tissues and metastasises (spreads
to other sites in the body), thereby producing secondary deposits. Any tissue in the
body may be affected.
2.
Cancers are classified according to the tissue of origin. Carcinoma arises from
epithelial tissue and sarcoma from connective tissue. The suffix blastoma implies a
tumour of embryonic origin.
3.
There are three main types of cancer of the kidney :
3.1. Nephroblastoma (Wilms’ tumour) is a rare tumour, occurring in childhood. ...

Kidney cancer
The kidneys are part of the urinary system. The human
body has two kidneys, one on either side of the middle of

Symptoms
In its early stages, kidney cancer may have no symptoms.
The disease may be discovered by accident, when the ...
