Abstract.
Spontaneous remission of haematologic malignancy is extremely rare. Spontaneous remission
of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) has been associated with viral infection, immunization and new
primary carcinoma. We report two cases of spontaneous regression of CLL, observed after 20 and 9
years from diagnosis. Spontaneous regression of CLL was documented by clinical and haematological
data and was not associated with viral infection or secondary malignancy. Both patients are alive and
without signs of CLL, three and four years after spontaneous regression of the disease. Authors discussed ...

The Leukaemia Research Fund in partnership with the Academy of Medical Sciences is
pleased to invite applications for two 5 year Clinician Scientist posts to begin on 1st
January 2003 or as soon as possible thereafter. These prestigious awards are part of a
national scheme to promote recruitment into clinical academic medicine.
The purpose of the awards is to combine the completion of specialist training in
haematology with post-doctoral research in an approved laboratory. Entry to the scheme
will normally be at SHO or SpR level and candidates will have completed a PhD/DPhil or
expect to have received their doctorate prior to taking up an award. The posts must be
supernumerary to existing SpR rotations and offer a flexible programme of training
integrated with protected research time.
Candidates must have a proven record ...

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia
The Value Of Autografting In Younger Patients With High Risk Chronic
Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) A Randomised Phase III Intergroup Trial
Study Design
Prospective randomised Phase III controlled trial, aims to recruit 125 patients in the
UK.
The trial is a randomised trial of high dose chemo-radiotherapy plus autologous
stem cell rescue versus no further treatment. Patients will be entered into the trial
only after they have received chemotherapy, which has resulted in the achievement
of a ‘complete response’, ‘good partial response’ or ‘nodular partial response’ to
standard induction chemotherapy. If patients fail to achieve a satisfactory response
to frontline initial treatment they may be treated with a second-line schedule and will
become eligible for entry if one of the above responses is obtained.
