Lymphoma cancer classification with DNA microarray data is one of important problems in bioinformatics. Many machine learning techniques have been applied to the problem and produced valuable results. However the medical field requires not only a high-accuracy classifier, but also the in-depth analysis and understanding of classification rules obtained. Since gene expression data have thousands of features, it is nearly impossible to represent and understand their complex relationships directly. In this ...

New mouse lymphoma study The study by Utteridge et al published in the September 2002 edition of Radiation Research is a significantly enhanced follow-on study to a 1997 study by Repacholi et al that received widespread media coverage at the time. The Australian National Health & Medical Research Council funded study at Adelaide University tested whether exposure of digital mobile phone emissions increased tumour incidence (lymphomas) in cancer prone mice as well as in normal mice. The study used 1600 mice compared to the 200 mice used in the earlier study. The mice were exposed to radiofrequency levels of 0.25, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 W/Kg for an hour per day for 24 months compared to a single dose and 18 month period in the Repacholi study. The Utteridge study reported that they could not reproduce the results of the earlier study which found digital mobile phone emissions doubled the cancer rate ...

Ga-67 citrate, Tc-99m HMDP, and Tl-201 scintigraphs all showed multifocal radiotracer accumulation. CT showed subtle osteolytic and osteosclerotic changes with surrounding soft tissue density mass. MRI clearly showed abnormal signal intensity in the bone marrow. After systemic chemotherapy and infield radiotherapy, the patient showed clinically complete remission. MRI showed reduction of the extraosseous components, but there was little signal change in the bone marrow despite the clinical ...

Avoid ethical issue of acquiring tissue solely for basic research. Quickly accrue patients for important clinical and basic research without precluding optimal benefit from standard treatment in future. BACKGROUND: Patient interest is an important starting point for study design. Patients with untreated stable disease provide an important untapped opportunity to investigate immune therapies, while also increasing our understanding of the molecular biology of the disease – which can provide the context for understanding outcomes, and the variable ...

CAD , a c-Myc Target Gene, is Not Deregulated in Burkitt's Lymphoma Cell Lines Susanna M. Mac and Peggy J. Farnham* Department of Oncology, McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research, University of Wisconsin±Madison, Madison, Wisconsin Although the Myc family of transcription factors is upregulated in many human tumors, it is unclear which genes are targets for the deregulated Myc. Previous studies suggest that hamster and rat carbamoyl phosphate synthase, aspartate transcarbamylase, dihydroorotase Cad genes are regulated by c-Myc. In fact, of all putative target genes thought to be activated by c-Myc, only the Cad gene showed loss of growth regulation in rat cells nullizygous for c-Myc. However, it was unknown whether upregulation of CAD, which performs the first three rate-limiting steps of pyrimidine biosynthesis, contributes to c-Myc's role in human neoplasia. To explore this possibility, we cloned the human ...

J. Neurosurg: Spine / Volume 5 / July, 2006 J Neurosurg Spine 5: 61–64, 2006 61 ODGKIN lymphomas primarily affecting the central nervous system are uncommon. Those causing spinal cord compression have been invariably ex- tradural. On further examinations, most of these reported lesions were found to extend contiguously into the ex- tradural compartment from adjacent sites. To our knowl- edge, we present the first case of a presumed primary in- tradural extraarachnoid Hodgkin lymphoma . Case Report History. In March 2000, this 42-year-old otherwise healthy man underwent examination for a 10-year history of neck pain. Initially, the pain was dull in intensity and not associated with any symptoms in the upper or lower extremities. In September 2000, the neck pain increased dramatically, becoming associated with numbness and tin- gling in the left thumb and index ...

A newly published study recommends that doctors carefully choose their patients’ initial ther- apies because there may be significant differences in overall survival rates, according to researchers at the James P. JCPSP 2006, Vol. 16 (4): 307-308 307 I NTRODUCTION Splenomegaly with fever is a common clinical presentation with long list of differential diagnosis. Common causes of splenomegaly in this country 1 are known but rare causes of splenomegaly are often overlooked, as there is reluctance to perform major surgery as a diagnostic procedure. Following report describes a case of primary splenic lymphoma in a patient with massive splenomegaly and fever diagnosed after splenectomy, which proved to be therapeutic as well. C ASE REPORT A 55 years old lady presented with complaints of high fever along with sweats, heaviness in left side of abdomen, aggravated by food intake, and weight loss of four months duration. Patient complained of generalized weakness, malaise and loss of appetite, but gave no history of bleeding from any site or skin rash. ...
