Abstract. More than a decade of experimental work in
an inbred subline of Sprague-Dawley rats having high
incidence of spontaneous T-cell lymphoma /leukaemia is
reviewed. Longitudinal follow-up of biological charac-
teristics (growth, survival, haematology) of both multi-
ple cases of primary disease and s.c. passaged lym-
phomas as well as comparative immunophenotypic and
karyotypic studies are concluded. In these T-cell lym-
phomas (mostly CD4 positive), arising on the same
genetic background of the inbred SD strain, the aberra-
tions involving chromosome 11 have been recognized as
a typical non-random cytogenetic marker. This unique
rat model of lymphoblastic lymphomas/leukaemias, rel-
evant to human pathology, seems to be very suitable for
testing different anticancer therapeutic strategies, as it is
documented by results of a number of various protocols
conducted ...

Hodgkin Lymphoma
What is Hodgkin Lymphoma ?
Hodgkin Lymphoma is a form of cancer, which affects the
lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the body’s natural
defence against infection. It is made up of a collection of lymph
glands located throughout the body in the neck, armpits, chest,
abdomen and groin. These glands are connected to tiny lymph
vessels. The tonsils and spleen also belong to the lymphatic
system. Lymphomas are split into two types: Hodgkin Lymphoma
and Non –Hodgkin Lymphoma .
Who gets Hodgkin Lymphoma ?
It is quite rare in children under 5 years but has an increased
incidence in ages15-19. For unknown reasons it is more common
in boys than girls.
What causes Hodgkin Lymphoma ?
The cause is unknown, with no proven risk factors. It is not

During 1996 an outbreak of disease associated with
Lympho-proliferative disease (viral lymphoma ), immuno-suppression,
respiratory disease and paralysis were investigated at Holly House
Veterinary Surgery, Leeds, England. The outbreak occurred in a large
breeding colony of about 45 mainly Testudo hermanni tortoises. The
colony was composed of several separate groups, one of which had
temporarily contacted four sick leopard tortoises ( Geochelone pardalis )
and an African hingeback ( Kinixys erosa ). The affected unit was made up
of 25 Testudo hermanni tortoises. The other unaffected tortoises were

Post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) are predominantly Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-
associated B-cell lymphoproliferations. PTLDs of T-cell lineage are rare, mostly reported after renal
transplantation and show less frequent association with EBV. NK-cell lymphomas after transplantation (NK-
cell PTLDs) are very rare; only five cases are reported so far in the English literature, all developed after renal
transplantation. We describe a case of EBV-associated, extranodal NK-cell lymphoma of nasal type, involving
the breast in a cardiac allograft recipient 5 years after transplantation. The neoplastic cells are positive for CD2,

We present morphologic, immunohistochemical and molecular profiles of signet ring cell lymphoma
(SRCL). The lymph node removed showed a diffuse infiltration of lymphoma cells consisting of large
blastic cells (LBC)and signet ring cells (SRC). LBC had a large oval-shaped nucleus, occasionally with
one or more nucleoli and scant cytoplasm, while SRC possessed eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusions
(Russell bodies) that displaced and distended the nucleus. LBC were CD20+, CD79a+, CD138- and
CD10-. SRC were CD 20-, CD79a+, CD138+ and CD10-. Both LBC and SRC contained the same
monoclonal cytoplasmic immunoglobulin (IgG, ?). Anti-CD 21 and anti-CD23 antibodies failed to stain
the proliferative areas of the lymphoma cells. Somatic ...

We report here an unusual autopsy case of bilateral adrenal lymphoma showing symptoms associat-
ed with hypercalcemia and taking a fulminant clinical course. The serum of the patient had a titer of
40 pg/ml of intact parathyroid hormone (normal range: 10-65 pg/ml) and a titer of 1720 pmol/l of
parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) (normal range: 13.8-55.3 pmol/l). Autopsy revealed
bilateral huge adrenal tumors, with the left weighing 230 g,and measuring 12×9×3.5 cm,and the right
weighing 140 g and measuring 11×8×3 cm. Histological examination revealed that the adrenal tumors
were diffuse large cell lymphoma ,and that the neoplastic cells were positive for CD20 (L26)and CD79a
(mb-1). In addition, the neoplastic cells were positive ...

Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL)
What is Non Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL)?
Non Hodgkin Lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system. The
lymphatic system is the body’s natural defence against infection. It
is made up of a collection of lymph glands (nodes) which are
located throughout the body in the neck, armpits, chest, abdomen
and groin. Tiny vessels connect these glands. The tonsils and
spleen also belong to the lymphatic system.
To understand non Hodgkin lymphoma , it is helpful to know about
normal cells and what happens when they become cancerous. The
body is made up of many types of cells. Normally, cells grow and
divide producing new cells only when the body needs them.
Sometimes cells keep dividing when new cells are not needed,
creating a mass of extra tissue. This mass is called a growth or ...

WHAT IS LYMPHOMA ?
Lymphoma refers to cancer of white
blood cells. Cells called B-lymphocytes
multiply rapidly and form tumors.
Lymphoma of the brain or spinal cord is
called central nervous system (CNS)
lymphoma .
AIDS-related lymphoma is sometimes
called Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

type of lymphoma , is rare in people with
HIV.) In 1985, the Centers for Disease

New Finding Will Improve Lymphoma , Autoimmune Disorder Treatments
DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke University Medical Center immunologists have pinpointed how a widely used treatment for non
Hodgkin's lymphoma attacks abnormal immune cells, called B cells. They believe that their discovery in mice of how the
antibody rituximab kills B cells will lead to improved treatments. Such improvement is critically important, since the drug is
currently effective in only about half of lymphoma patients, and virtually all patients experience eventual relapse and cease
responding to the drug. The drug also has similar drawbacks in its use as a treatment for autoimmune diseases such as
rheumatoid arthritis, in which abnormal B cells attack the body's own tissues.
Led by Thomas Tedder, Ph. D., professor and chair of immunology, the researchers published their findings June 21,
2004, in the advanced online version of the Journal of Experimental Medicine. ...

Both males and females are prone to cancers in organs whose maintenance is sex hormone-dependent
