PDF [68,7 KB]  From [www.postgradmed.com]  Last viewed: 26.12.2004
POSTGRADUATE MEDICINE April 1999 © The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc 1 Unlike many types of cancer , testicular cancer most often affects young adults. In fact, it is the most common cancer in males between ages 15 and 35. The good news is that treatment is usually very successful. Examination for testicular cancer will probably be included in any physical examinations that you receive at a doctor’s office, but you should examine yourself regularly as well. Are certain males at risk for testicular cancer ? A testis that has not fully descended into the scrotum (a condition called cryp- torchidism, which means “hidden testis”) is the single greatest risk factor. Males with a testis that is located completely within the abdomen (so it cannot be felt at all during palpation) are at especially high risk. An undescended testis increases the risk of cancer in the ...

PDF [71,7 KB]  From [www.cancer.org.au]  Last viewed: 26.12.2004
POSITION STATEMENT TESTICULAR CANCER Overview The testicles are two egg-shaped gland s found in men. They produce semen and sex hormones. Testicular cancer is one of the more rare forms of cancer with an estimated incidence of approximately 6 in every 100,000 men. 1 Young men are more commonly affected by testicular cancer , with about half of the new diagnoses being made in men under the age of 33 years. 2 There are two different types of testicular cancer , non-seminoma, a cancer of the mature germ cells affecting mostly the 15-35 male year old age group and seminoma, cancer formed from immature germ cells, which generally affects the 25-55 male age group. The outlook for men diagnosed with testicular cancer has improved dramatically since the 1970s when chemotherapy was introduced to treat the ...

PDF [529,8 KB]  From [www.expressgaynews.com]  Last viewed: 26.12.2004
By WILL CASTILLO Marco Puliz’s first “coming out” was not planned. But then again, like most of us, Puliz’ s life-changing experiences were never really planned. The difference between Puliz and most of the rest of us is just how many life-altering experiences he has, and continues, to face. But don’t call him a victim. When he was a young man, Puliz was discovered taking a shower with another man in his parents’ home when his family returned unexpectedly early from vacation. Puliz was stunned. Of course, so were his parents. He packed his bags and moved out a few days later, and attended college while liv- ing with his brother. He earned his bache- lor’s degree and moved to San Diego, where he really discovered the gay world. He landed a job in sales and did well financially. At the time, he thought he had overcome all the biggest obstacles in a young ...

For all histologic types of testicular cancer combined, no sig- nificant associations were found for specific occupations, nor for the broad occupational categories of professional, other white collar, or blue collar workers. However, for cases with seminomas, excess risks were seen for those with parents employed in the follow- ...
