Survival prediction using artificial neural networks in patients with uterine cervical
cancer

Abstract
Our purpose of this study was to construct the predict model
using artificial neural networks (ANNs) from radiation
oncology database. Although there is no guarantee that
trained ANNs models reached an error minimum point, we
made 40 models by each combination of hidden nodes (30, 50,
100, and 150). Using the trained ANNs, we predicted the
survival in patients with uterine cervical cancer treated by
radiation therapy. The performance of ANNs was evaluated
using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis by
those maximums and the mean. Az value was the highest at the
number of neuron 150, and the value was maximum ...

UTERINE CANCER OVERVIEW
THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
DESCRIPTION
Uterine cancer (endometrial cancer ) is a malignancy of the uterus , found in women. It affects the
lining of the uterus (endometrium). Uterine cancer is most often a type of cancer called an
adenocarcinoma . It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer of the female reproductive system .
Other names sometimes used for uterine cancer are cancer of the uterus, endometrial cancer ,
endometrial carcinoma , cancer of the uterine corpus , or cancer of the uterine body. Two other
types of cancer that occur in the uterus are different from endometrial cancer . They are cancers
of the cervix , which most often affects the surface cells (squamous cells) lining the cervix, and
uterine sarcoma, which affects the muscle layer of the uterus (myometrium). Uterine sarcoma is
rare (2%-5% of all cancers found ...

Endometrial ( uterine ) cancer is diagnosed in almost 39,300 women/year in the U.S. Although cancer
death rates have been declining since the 1930’s due primarily to earlier diagnosis, endometrial cancer
still accounts for approximately 6,600 cancer deaths each year. It occurs most frequently in women
between the ages of 50 and 70.

UTERINE CANCER
What is Uterine Cancer ?
The uterus (also known as the womb) is an organ in the middle of the female
pelvis. The uterus is where the fertilized egg implants and growth and
development of the baby occurs. The uterus is basically a large hollow muscle.
During a woman’s labor, the uterus contracts and causes the baby to be born. In
women of childbearing age, the lining of the uterus sheds every month in response
to the ovarian hormones, estrogen and progesterone, in a process known as
menstruation. At menopause, or change in life, the production of these hormones
decreases and menstruation stops. Vaginal bleeding after menopause is
considered abnormal.

* In general, corpus uteri cancer is more common among women of white non-Hispanic ethnicity than
among women of other ethnicities. The small size of the African-American, Hispanic, and Asian
populations in Marin County prevents the calculation of stable incidence rates for these populations. For
this reason, and because the incidence of corpus uteri cancer varies by race/ethnicity, the above data
includes only white non-Hispanic Marin County residents.

Uterine cancer
The uterus (womb) is part of the female reproductive
system. It is shaped like an upside down pear and sits
inside the pelvis. It is in the uterus that a fertilised egg
grows into a baby. Over 470 Victorian women are
diagnosed with cancer of the uterus every year. Most of
these women are over the age of 50 years. Cancer of the
uterus is also known as cancer of the womb, uterine
cancer, endometrial cancer and cancer of the lining of the
womb.
Different types
Most cases of cancer of the uterus are cancers of the
uterus lining (endometrium), though some cancers grow
in the muscle layers of the uterus. The different types of
uterine cancer include:
•
Adenocarcinoma of the endometrium -
around 85 per cent of women diagnosed with
cancer of the uterus have this form. An
adenocarcinoma is a cancer that starts in ...

What Should I Look For?
Know what is normal for your body. If you notice
changes in your body and tell the doctor, the disease
may be found earlier. Finding cancer of the uterus early
makes it easier to treat. You should report any of the
following signs to your doctor right away:
Bleeding that is not your normal period;
Discharge from the vagina, especially after you
have stopped having periods (menopause);
Bloating or cramping in your pelvis;
Unintentional weight loss or gain;
A lump in your pelvis.
Women who take estrogen replacement therapy should
report any of the following to their doctor immediately:
Bleeding or spotting after sex;
Bleeding that lasts longer than 7 days;
Periods that come every 21 days or less;
Bleeding or staining after six months or more of no
bleeding at all (menopause).
What Adds to My Risk?
